This email is especially for the people I met during my trips.... And offcourse everybody who likes to read it!! I thought that it should be nice to wright something for you guys because dutch isn't that easy to read for you! haha.. Some of you don't even speak English.. so I am thinking about writing something in Spanish too. But that's kind of difficult.. So first this one in english...
Next week on the 13th of november, I am leaving for 3 months to Ghana, Africa, to do some voluntary work at an orphanage. I am going to help here, play with the kids and give some extra attention to the kids. There are living around 60 people in the orphanage, called New Life Home. About 40 kids and eldery kids & 20 grown-ups without family or a roof above their heads. So their house is New Life Home.
Since I knew I wanted to go to Ghana and help at an orphanage I started gather funds and goods for the children at New Life Home. But by now the donations given by family, friends, employees and visitors of the campsite, locals and the Dutch Reformed Church exceeded my expectations by far. My idea was to create a playground but by now it has extended to building a whole kindergarden block as well! The location for this school is Kokobeng, a small village half an hour outside of Kumasi.
Some five hundred inhabitants form a friendly an co-operative community. In the past they started building a primary school from funds. Masons and carpenteres from the village have continued building it. Although it is nog finished yet due to lack of funds, the kindergarden has priority as it consist of nothing mor than a platform marked by some withered blocks with a few benches a small blackboard and a low roof over it. Since there is no closet there can be NO toys or stationary for the kids.
In consensus with the town-council the kindergarden will contain two classrooms and an office. A contractor from Kumasi is to oversee the work but the villagers will build it.
I allready have sent some money to GoodWorkGhana. So they allready started with clearing and level the spot where they are going to build the kindergarden. This organisation consist of 5 people. 4 in Ghana and 1 in the Netherlands.
Next week 1 of them named Yao will pick me up from the airport. I will have a introduction week at the compound of GoodWorkGHana and after that week they will bring me to my new home...
My new family will be: 5 priests!! And a voluntarier from Germany. 5 priests should be very save.. don't you think so...
In December 2 other dutch girls will come to the house and stay there for a few months as well.
By now the donations in euros are: € 7308, 30
With this amount of money the school can be build and alot of other nice things can be done!
I will try to write something in English during my stay in Ghana so you guys can follow me as well!!
Big hug and kisses to you all!
